Streamed sessions
We have three great spaces for at least three streams per session, as well as access to computer labs, so the more session proposals the merrier! We’ll start the day by voting for the sessions we want to participate in, and then add them to our schedule
Workshops
There is a ‘double’ session in the morning that we can use for workshops, as well as other sessions. The kind folks willing to perform death-defying live demos and oversee hands-on build/hack sessions are Dr Tim Sherratt, University of Canberra and Jonny Flutey, Information Technology Services, Victoria University of Wellington.
Learn to Build: Discover the easiest way to create a free, content-rich, collaborative website
Do YOU need to –
- Promote your favourite topic to a worldwide audience?
- Share documents or images with your adoring followers?
- Raise awareness of your next great project on this new fangled webby thing?
Do YOU not have –
- The tools, technology and training to create your own websites?
- A nerd herd of RAs to fulfil your website based dreams?
- A $3000 dollar consultant budget to create just a basic website in the latest trendy design?
Then this workshop is for you! Focusing on using basic, accessible and FREE web application tools, you will learn to create a content-rich, collaborative website without the need to whip out a chequebook or call support.
If you would like to take full advantage of this session, start thinking now about the type of website that you may want to create. Jot down some content, save images, or whole image collections, that you think would support the content, and bring them along.
Also, there will be prizes for the best website name, most creative website and ‘best effort!’ website created on the day.
This session will be perfect for anyone who has never had to design a website before or has never tried but has a great story to tell the world!
Computers will be provided, but feel free to bring along your own laptop to participate in the session.
Your Host: Jonny Flutey, Information Technology Services, Victoria University of Wellington
Learn to Break: Discover your inner hacker
The ability to pull apart tools and websites is an important skill, which allows you to think more critically about new possibilities. Digital Historian Tim Sherratt will cover some basic reverse engineering techniques such as hacking query urls, inspecting http headers, monitoring ajax calls, and demonstrate ways of pulling things apart using XPaths, regular expressions and more.
Your Host: Tim Sherratt, University of Canberra @wragge
